TripBoss Travel Website
Smart travel assistant with search, currency converter, translator, weather, and Wikipedia-powered city summaries. MySQL backend for preferences and history.
The Problem
Travel planning requires juggling multiple browser tabs — currency, weather, translation, destination info — with no unified lightweight tool for independent travelers.
Architecture & Approach
Built a single-page travel assistant orchestrating Wikipedia, weather, currency-exchange, and translation APIs. MySQL backend persists user search history and preferences across sessions.
Engineering Challenges & Solutions
- Orchestrating 4+ external APIs with graceful error fallback when one is slow or rate-limited
- Progressive rendering — show partial data immediately rather than blocking on all APIs
- MySQL schema for flexible user preference storage across very different data types
Outcome & Results
Fully functional travel assistant where searching a city auto-populates Wikipedia summary, live weather, and local currency rates in under 2 seconds.
Lessons Learned
Progressive rendering and good loading states matter more than data completeness. Showing partial results immediately felt faster than waiting for all APIs to respond.
